Root Canal
A root canal is a dental treatment where the dentist removes the pulp (i.e., the soft tissue located beneath the hard surface) from inside a tooth. Root canals may be performed in a variety of circumstances, such as when a tooth is damaged and needs a crown or when a tooth’s pulp is infected.
A root canal is considered a major dental procedure. An insurance company may require a customer to be enrolled in its dental plan for several months prior to covering a root canal. Alternatively, a dental plan may have no waiting period delay coverage for this treatment, or a plan may not cover root canals.
