Annual Exam
Annual exams are periodic examinations of a patient by a dentist to evaluate the patient’s oral health. The dentist determines whether the patient has cavities or other problems such as gingivitis, periodontitis, or an impacted tooth. During the exam, the patient’s mouth may be x-rayed.
Annual exams are considered preventive dental care and may be obtained with no copayment under some dental insurance plans. These examinations typically happen once a year or twice a year. By performing the exams at regular intervals, the patient has a better chance to have dental problems identified early and treated before they become more severe.
